What I did on National Day 2010

So it was a very lazy Monday morning.... no Monday blues though, since I got to get out of bed only at 10am :) heehee.....If only every morning is like that ...

Husby had to rush off to fetch his mum at 11 plus so I had to come up with something quick and easy to prepare for BRUNCH. Yeah , breakfast and lunch rolled into one.

We had this for brunch!

I was feeling  domestic that day and husby has been craving for it so I baked cookies!

I was commenting to husby that I felt like a housewife as I carried on with doing the laundry and sweeping the floor. To my surprise, he mentioned that he would love for me to be a housewife! An obvious reason is that I can pamper him !!!! Hahhaa...... u wait long long ok? As much as I feel that my job is stressful and tiring, I am not ready to be a housewife yet. Maybe when we have more than 2 kids ? :P

But it was still a nice idea, all the same. Then can wake up late everyday! LOL.

After watching the earlier part of the NDP , we went over to my parents' place as my dad wanted to bring us out for dinner.

The little nephew was really excited and hyper....I think he missed us as much as we missed him. Tataku! ( "I love you" , in his language) .

Giving that grumpy look .

Throwing mini tantrums during dinner. But , still very cute .

He must do some funny / weird faces
whenever I try to snap a pic. Haiz....

Mock sharks' fin soup. Husby is quite an environmentalist
so we haven't had the real thing for quite some time.

The rest of the spread. See the empty space?
That's where the chilli crabs were placed
next - right in front of me!!! YUmmmmmSssssss......

Yeah .... so that was how I spent my National Day hols. It is supposed to be a holiday still today but I have to report for duty soon, in about 3 hours' time and would probably be home only after 9pm.

Besides National Day as a highlight , tomorrow would be the first day of Ramadhan - the fasting month for all Muslims. That means , I have to wake up early to cook for the daily pre-dawn meals.

So, Happy National Day to Singapore and all Singaporeans and Salam Ramadhan to fellow Muslim brothers and sisters ! :)

World Sauna Championship

In my opinion, this is one of the stupidest competitions ever.

We have heard of weird contests such as the Chilli Eating Contest in Japan - that is actually enough to damage one's internal organs.

But this World Sauna Championship is absolutely ridiculous. Basically, as the name goes, contestants are to stay in a sauna for as long as possible, and they increase the temperature of the sauna at different stages. Now, I don't understand why anyone would want to put himself through such physical and mental torture?

For money? For fame? It is seriously not worth it!

And we are not talking about 40 - 50 degrees Celcius. The final stage of the competition required the finalists to stay in a sauna with a temperature of 110 degrees Celcius! Pure madness!

Just after six minutes, both collapsed. One died.

Why am I not surprised?

Read details below:

HELSINKI (AFP) - – The two finalists in Finland's annual World Sauna Championships were rushed to hospital before the competition ended Saturday evening and the Russian contestant died, organisers said.

The "Russian competitor has died in (the) Sauna World Championships," the head of the competition Ossi Arvela said in a statement.

He added that the Finnish finalist had been taken from the competition location in Heinola, 138 kilometres (86 miles) north of Helsinki, further south to a hospital in the larger city of Lahti for treatment.

He told AFP that the two finalists were Russian Vladimir Ladyzhensky and Timo Kaukonen of Finland.
Kaukonen won last year's championships and Ladyzhensky had also figured among the favorites ahead of Saturday's meet, in which participants were asked to withstand a sweltering 110 degrees Celsius (230 degrees Fahrenheit) for as long as possible.

The "event was interrupted immediately after the accident. (The) competition organisation grieves these sad events," Arvela said.

Police launched an investigation, he said, insisting that "all the rules were followed" and that all the contestants had undergone medical checks before the competition began.

According to Finnish news agency STT, the contest was cut short after about six minutes, and when the doors were opened, both finalists collapsed.

One witness told the news agency they had both suffered serious burns, but Arvela could not confirm the information.

The world championships in sauna sitting have been held in Heinola since 1999, and this year's event drew 135 contestants from 15 different countries.

I hope there will less dumb people in the world.

Shopping!

We decided to go to town yesterday afternoon.

We went out rather early  - @11 am for a late breakfast, after which he had his hair cut at Kimage in Rivervale ( yes, no other branch allowed! ). So by the time we were done, it was close to 2pm. Traffic on CTE was heavy -  I wonder why it is like that ALL the time!

Orchard was packed as usual , throngs of people were walking down the streets, leaving not much space in between each person. I haven't walked for long distances for quite a while so it was definitely good exercise :)

So after about 4 hours, we ended up with these....

3 pairs of shoes. Guess which is mine? Quick !

The answer is ......... NONE!!!

Yeah , can you believe that?

Why in the world would a guy need so many shoes for , right? This is a ladies' job , isn't it?

Well, apparently not lah! Guys nowadays are as vain as the ladies.... heehee.....  But I like! I prefer guys who put in the effort to look good :) Fifty points for you, husby!

Ok, what did he buy?

Planned: Brown Beetle. To replace his
worn-out brown Beetlebug shoes for work.

Planned: Blue Tennis Barricade 5 . His tennis
shoes just gave way so this is a legitimate reason.

UNPLANNED! Hehe... oklah , semi-planned.
His white pair that we got for the wedding will
need replacement very soon...so since
we saw a cool pair at Pedro, why not yah? After
all, he paid - not me . Haha.

I actually saw a very nice pair of sandals at Pretty Fit and it was even going at 40% discount! He was this close to getting it for me .... but I humbly declined :P I couldn't believe how much resistance I had ... heheh....I was even satisfied just by trying out the pretty heels at Pedro. Trying is free!

Well, there is no more space for any new shoes for me in the cabinet anyway. I have taken up most of the places so I shall hold on and persevere for at least the next 3 months.

Being a little domestic, we got curtains for the guest room , at Taka......

Now, the Hari Raya shopping is almost completed. Only things left to buy would be the ingredients for baking the cookies / goodies. Yups, you read it right ! I am going to try baking 3 types , all on my own . It just so happens that Hari Raya falls on the Friday of the September week hols..... I shall be a housewife for that week :)

Did I really not get anything yesterday? A little difficult to stomach , right? :P

Well, I have been planning to get this and I did !

The courts store opposite Somerset @ 313 was so inviting that I couldn't resist! So far , I like what I purchased. I had some fun trying out the various scene modes.... will figure the other functions out later.

Oh , and I bought the materials for my little project ...

The little project shall remain a secret until it is successfully done ..if not, very paiseh! Hehe.... I am going to give it a go today .

Gonna be alone at home for the next 9 hours - shall catch up on the forgotten housework!

Enjoy your Sunday!

LONG WEEKEND!

I am a happy lady ! :)

Knocked off from work at 11:00 , after all the celebrations and settling some admin matters.

I had brought home most of my overdue work yesterday so my hands were free from anything else, except my usual bag. It was such a good feeling to leave the gate , knowing that I can have see husby for 24 hrs for 4 days STRAIGHT! That is such a privilege....

I should not be happy actually. It is going to be a long weekend - with Monday and Tuesday being holidays as well. Some of my colleagues are already leaving for KL tonight.

I am JEALOUS because I am stuck in Singapore for all four days.

Parents and family are going back to Muar tomorrow morning....it is going to be a super fun reunion with the relatives back in the village. Plus, my favourite cousins are going also. But we cannot go :(

There is YOG rehearsal tomorrow which is going to end only at 12:45 MIDNIGHT! Yups. You saw it right! Reporting time is at 1pm... Thank God I am not the one on duty tomorrow.

But I will have my turn . Got to go back to work on TUesday as the kids are performing for the Lighting of the YOG Cauldron at Temasek Polytechnic in the evening. There goes my holiday! There is still another end-after-midnight rehearsal the next day... I am going to be so dead beat....

However, I shall look on the brighter side. I am gonna bake cookies tomorrow and on Sunday , I am going to start on my project (will share on that later). I can't wait ! :P

So .....enjoy your weekend people! And Happy (advanced) Birthday, Singapore

Siam Kitchen - More than just Thai !

Food - the way to anyone's heart!

We were at Parkway Parade last weekend and we were very stuck at what to eat for lunch.

We actually went from basement all the way up to the fifth floor but Banquet was packed with the lunch hour crowd. Round and round we went ...and the choices were narrowed down to Pastamania and Siam Kitchen.

I was secretly hoping for the latter as my tongue badly wanted to taste something spicy and sour... thus , I gleefully agreed when he wanted to go Thai that afternoon! :)

We have been to Siam Kitchen a few times. I wouldn't say the food is fantastic but they are pretty alright . I already know what I wanted to eat before we were even ushered to our seats.... hehe....

Hungry, so we devoured this the minute it landed on the table!

One thing I really favour at this place is their chilli mix. It is sweet yet spicy enough for me to long for the taste again. As you know, I cannot live without chillies!

So what did we have for lunch?

I must have the Tom Yam Kung . Not the best tom yam soup that I have ever tasted but it was good enough : )

My favourite Phad Thai Glass Noodles - specifically with no bean sprouts! Yeah, I don't like bean sprouts and without them , I can totally finish my food and lick the plate clean.

His beef noodles. Ok, I am biased against beef noodles - I cannot stand the smell! But he likes it so I guess, it's ok.

His order again - some skinny fried wings . Very skinny. But very crispy and yummy :) Too bad I was too full to eat more than one.

Spicy and sour food goes very well with cold drinks ... Orange juice and Rose + lime Juice (Sirap limau).

The past visits to Siam Kitchen always ended with me having a bloated tummy because I get really full after each meal. That day was no exception.

I would say this place is really not bad.... even the service was pretty prompt. :)
