When the husband is away.....

I seek refuge with my boyfren.

He is always there to entertain me and cheer me up when I am missing my husby too much.

In fact , for the 6 days that my other half is away, he invited me to sleep over at his place and has planned many activities over the days.

How I love looking at him sleep  :)

This was taken a few minutes after he scolded me why I was not sleeping yet the first night..so I pretended to snooze.

It was brother's birthday yesterday. Since he had to work in the day and was going for the Sundown Marathon later in the night, it was just a simple celebration at home. But as usual , someone else was more excited than the birthday boy!

He is always up to something.Just two days there at his place, we have had imaginary picnic, shopping trips and played village games, all in his home. I just love kids' creativity.

I am home now , rushing through a hamper order before going out for dinner with parents later.

I miss my darling husby so much ... it is quite tough to be without him .

But at least, there is the ninja hero to entertain me!

Haha! He doesn't wear diapers anymore but found one in his cupboard yesterday! LOL.

3 and half more days before I can finally sleep in peace.

The Hana Tajima Style

If you are a shawl-lover like yours truly, you would probably have heard of Hana Tajima.

Who is Hana Tajima?
Hana Tajima is a British who is half-Japanese and half-English. She converted to Islam 6 years ago when she was 17. Frustrated with the limited choices for young Muslim ladies, she started her own clothing line and is now a fashion designer.

(23 years old and successful already? Lucky her!)

And currently, the Hana Tajima shawl style is the rage. No more neatly-tied / wrapped shawls.... her style is more of the messy , uneven look. You know , just like how the messy-hair look can be fashionable, so can the messy-shawl look! :)

Here she is , in 3 different styles  (pictures are googled)....

She has a youtube channel as well, where she puts up tutorials of how to style the hijabs, her style.

Here are two of my favourites....

I have yet to master any of her styles although I have seen some people wearing them and they look really good. I am still quite far from that. However, the downside of this style is that it doesn't cover your chest . I am used to having my shawls big enough to cover my chest (we are supposed to do that, anyway) so I had to modify a little.

I was trying to take a decent pic while the car was on the move :P

It was really pretty easy to put on and handle. Usually I do not take off my shawl when I do my prayers outside because it can be troublesome to start pinning and wrapping it again. But not this style! Since there isn't much structure to it, I actually managed to do it in a jiffy!

I am still trying to perfect it and get used to it though ... I hope I can score a 10 soon :)

Here's one more attempt at modifying it to suit me . Not as good , I think this makes me look fat!

Just because my husby recently commented that my right profile is better than the left, I've been taking pictures that way. LOL. Must revert back to taking from all angles.

Now that the exams are over and no more markings for the time being, I think I will spend more time watching hijab and make-up tutorials , and hopefully, hone my skills!

Engagement of Zaki & Faezah

How time flies....

It felt like only yesterday that my little brother got enlisted into the army and ended up signing on for the next five years of his life.
And now, he is officially taken.

The not-so-little brother of mine got engaged over the weekend. It was a small family affair, with only my parents' siblings and families around. Nevertheless, it was a happy event and we were all in high spirits.
I was extra happy because I managed to finish my MYE markings by last Friday morning. Thus, I was all ready to help out and was at my sister's place by 4pm that same Friday.

We started off with wrapping the chocs that were to be the simple favours.

I recently found a love for craftwork so I was more than ready to help decorate the gift trays to be given to the girl's side. Since it was meant to be a simple affair, most of the gifts were food items. Still, it should be made as presentable as possible.. and since my brother wanted everything to be sky blue ...yeps, all decorative items were mostly in that shade.

I was up early the next morning as there were some last minute things to be done . We also had to make sure that the buffet tables were set up and drinks prepared, among others, as our relatives were coming over by 12:30pm .

For those not in the know, in a Malay traditional engagement ceremony, gifts are exchanged between the two parties .... you can keep it simple or be extravagant ...it's really up to the individual . My sister had 17 trays for her engagement and I had NONE (it was difficult to convince my mum though - that I didn't want all these) ! LOL.

Lots of photos now! Pictures speak a thousand words so minimal words ok?  :)

Some of the gift trays from brother

Isn't this pretty ? They are chocolates (with fillings) and even the heart-shaped box is purely made of chocolate. Very sweet and meanigful gifts for any occasion. Check out D'Fine Yourstyle for more designs!

A quick family photo before we left for the girl's side

Happy mummy!

With a favourite cousin

Lil nephew did not want to be left out!

The Pretty 'bride'

Some serious discussions going on

After the discussion about the dowry , wedding etc, we proceeded to the room where the pretty lady was, for the 'ring ceremony'.

In Malay / Muslim  traditional custom, an elder relative will be the one to put on the ring for the 'bride'.

I love the white cage where they placed brother's ring in ...

Next was a small reception at the multi purpose hall. I was rather hungry by then and couldn't wait to attack the food!

Back at home.......

Cheeky brother showing off his engagement ring

A photo of the cake .... modelled after his army uniform :)   Dad said it was the first time he saw such a dirty cake... heehee.

Quails' eggs

Ah ha! Caught in action! But he insisted he was just counting the sweets....yah ,right.......

I still find it rather surreal that my brother is now officially engaged. I still remember those times when he was just so cute and adorable  - not that he is not anymore lah. But in a different way :P

To make it all the most interesting, his fiancee is actually an ex-student of mine! How small can Singapore get! I was the Co-Form teacher of her Sec 4 class when I first started teaching back in 2003.

During a dance performance - try and guess which one is bro's fiancee? And I cannot believe I was super duper thin! I must have been at least 3 sizes smaller :(
Anyway, to my darling brother and ex-student-turned-future-sister-in-law, may you  be blessed with a smooth journey towards marriage and Jannah thereafter :) .

Something Yellow....

I just want to declare that I love my two best buddies and that little princess! Love love love!

Us - at Raffles City
And the following picture is of us again (sans the princess) exactly 10 years ago!

In denial . No, that is not me.

I am quite amazed at how much we have changed - I refused to use the word 'aged'! :P  But I definitely prefer my current eyes and nose. Not that they are looking fantastic or that I've gone to modify them ... but my double eyelids are definitely more evident and my nose has somehow become slightly smaller and just a teeny bit sharper. LOL. But of course, cannot fight with Rahayu's nose!

(And yes, of all my features, if there is on thing I wld wanna change ,that'll be the nose).

I wonder when the next meet-up is...there are plans for some spa escapades . Let it come true , please.

Pretty Purple

There are a few things that I would do when I am under pressure.

Like now. Heh. I am almost done with the MYE markings ... I should be able to finish by tomorrow.

I was feeling quite frustrated just now and impulsively, decided to pack up and go for a pedicure at my usual haunt, the Nail Palace. I love going to the branch in Pasir Ris but decided to go to the one in Simei instead.

So now I am home with ten very pretty toe nails. Happy!!!

There are so many things I wanna blog about but priority for now wld be the papers... Oh well...back to marking!
